The National Identification Authority (NIDA) lets applicants, both citizens and legal residents, fill in the National ID application form online from anywhere through the NIDA Online system. After completing the form, you print it and take it, with your documents, to the NIDA district office near you to complete biometric registration. This guide explains the documents and each step, based on NIDA's official online portal.
- Portal: eonline.nida.go.tz
- Create account: Jisajili / Create Account
- You will need: an active email address, a mobile number and at least two identity documents
- NIDA customer service: 0232210500, info@nida.go.tz
Required Documents for Citizens
- The applicant's birth certificate
- A copy of the birth certificate or affidavit of one parent
- If you are a citizen by descent: a copy of one parent's birth certificate or National ID
- If you are a citizen by registration: a copy of your registration certificate (Dossier Number)
Birth certificate rule: if you were born in 1980 or later, you must attach a birth certificate. If you were born before 1980, attach a birth certificate or an affidavit.
If you have school certificates, a TIN or a voter's card, it is a good idea to attach them too.
Required Documents for Legal Residents
- Passport number
- Residence permit or work permit
Step 1: Create Your NIDA Online Account
- Go to eonline.nida.go.tz and click "Jisajili / Create Account".
- Register with your email address. NIDA sends a link to your email that lets you complete your registration.
- Log in with "Ingia / Login".
Step 2: Fill in the Application Form
- Fill in your details correctly, including your mobile phone number.
- Enter the names of your biological father and mother.
- If you are known by other names, write them too, so that any future name correction is easier.
- If your parents already have National IDs and you know their NIN numbers, attach the original supporting documents.
- Know your house number, street (Mtaa) and ward where you live.
- Tanzanians living abroad must get confirmation of their residence in that country from an officer at the Tanzanian Embassy, so that they can fill in the residence, street and ward details correctly.
- Make sure the details you enter do not conflict with your other records, such as school or business records.
Step 3: Upload Your Documents
Scan your documents and upload them as PDF (no more than one page per attachment) or as JPG or PNG images. You need at least two documents to prove your identity, such as a birth certificate.
Step 4: Get the Form Stamped at Your Mtaa Office
Print the completed form and take it to the local government (Serikali ya Mtaa) office where you live, so that the Mtaa Chairperson can stamp and sign it.
Step 5: Visit the NIDA District Office
Go to the NIDA office in your district of residence with:
- The completed form, stamped and signed by your Mtaa Chairperson
- Hard copies of all the documents you uploaded
At the office, your biometrics are captured to complete your registration.
