Basic purpose
The Manager – IFRS 9, Portfolio Analytics & Reporting is responsible for providing high-quality credit portfolio analytics, IFRS 9/ECL oversight, management information and forward-looking portfolio insights to support informed credit and business decisions at Equity Bank Tanzania.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Coordinate the Bank’s credit portfolio analytics and reporting activities.
- Manage IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss (ECL), Monitor ECL movements by:
- Product
- Segment
- Branch
- Sector
- Customer type
- Risk grade
- Vintage
- Stage
- Analyse significant increases in credit risk (SICR).
- Analyse the key ECL drivers, including:
- Probability of Default (PD)
- Loss Given Default (LGD)
- Exposure at Default (EAD)
- Discounting
- Forward-looking economic scenarios
- Macroeconomic assumptions
- Provide portfolio-level analysis supporting Finance and Risk in ECL calculation and reporting.
- Identify unusual or unexpected movements in ECL and provide explanations to management.
- Support periodic IFRS 9 model performance reviews and validation exercises.
- Ensure portfolio data for portfolio analysis calculations is accurate, complete and reconciled.
- Track cures and movement among loan stages back to performing status where applicable.
- Recommend early intervention where stage migration indicates emerging portfolio risk.
- Establish a robust vintage analysis framework to monitor the quality of newly originated loans.
- Convert complex data into concise management insights.
- Identify emerging concentration risks and provide recommendations to the Head of Credit Portfolio Management.
- Analyse whether portfolio returns adequately compensate for credit risk.
- Establish strong controls over credit portfolio data. Reconcile credit portfolio data between source systems and management reports. Ensure accurate classification of exposures.
- Ensure consistency of data definitions across Credit, Risk and Finance. Establish appropriate controls over data extraction and reporting.
- Support internal and external audits relating to IFR 9 ECL, Credit portfolio reporting, Data integrity.
- Provide accurate portfolio analytics and data required for regulatory reporting and supervisory reviews, working with Finance, Risk and Compliance.
- Develop analytical indicators that identify emerging deterioration before accounts become NPLs.
- Support monthly and quarterly portfolio review meetings by providing:
- Monitor guarantee schemes reporting accuracy. (PASS, AGF) etc
Qualifications
- University degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
Skills & knowledge
- Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership and relationship-building skills.
- Effective communication in English (both written and spoken).
- Excellent Microsoft suite proficiency
- Networking and market intelligence skills.
- Prior experience of working with C-suite professionals/teams
- Knowledge in IFRS9 reporting
- Portfolio Analytic and Monitoring

Basic purpose
The Manager – Credit Governance is responsible for establishing and maintaining a strong credit governance, policy, control and oversight framework across Equity Bank Tanzania’s credit lifecycle.
The role ensures that credit activities are undertaken in accordance with the Bank’s approved Credit Policy, Delegated Authority Matrix, regulatory requirements, risk appetite, approved credit processes and governance standards.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Maintain and continuously strengthen the Bank’s credit governance framework.
- Ensure clear governance throughout the credit lifecycle from:
- Origination → Appraisal → Approval → Documentation → Disbursement → Monitoring → Remedial Management → Recovery.
- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties between Business, Credit, Risk, Operations and Recovery functions.
- Monitor adherence to approved credit governance standards.
- Identify governance weaknesses and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain a centralized register of key credit governance requirements.
- Ensure credit governance practices remain aligned with the Bank’s strategic objectives and risk appetite.
- Ensure policies remain relevant to the Bank’s portfolio strategy and operating environment.
- Coordinate periodic reviews of credit manuals, product programmes and lending guidelines.
- Ensure approved policy changes are properly communicated to relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor compliance with the Bank’s Delegated Credit Authority Matrix.
- Review and track credit approval exceptions and authority breaches.
- Monitor material breaches to the Head of Credit Portfolio Management and relevant governance forums. This includes:
- Unauthorized approvals
- Approval splitting
- Circumvention of delegated authority
- Unauthorized condition waivers
- Post-approval amendments
- Unapproved limit excesses
- The Manager will act as a key coordinator for credit governance forums and ensure that committees operate within their approved mandates. Coordinate agendas for relevant credit committees, ensure credit papers are submitted within agreed timelines, Maintain accurate minutes and decision records.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive framework for managing credit exceptions.
- Conduct periodic governance reviews of credit files and processes. Test compliance with approved credit terms and conditions, Review whether actual facilities reflect approved terms.
- Track repeat audit findings and ensure sustainable corrective action.
- Monitor closure of audit issues within agreed timelines.
- Ensure regulatory examination findings are properly addressed.
- Review the end-to-end credit process to identify inefficiencies and control gaps.
- Recommend process improvements that enhance both risk control and customer experience.
- Work with Credit Operations, Technology and Business teams to automate manual controls.
- Working under the Head of Credit Portfolio Management, the Manager will support the development of a strong credit risk culture across the Bank.
- Establish a structured process for converting credit experience into improved underwriting standards.
- Maintain a centralized tracker for all material credit governance decisions and actions.
- Develop regular Credit Governance reports for the Head of Credit Portfolio Management and senior management, The dashboard should provide management with an early view of emerging governance weaknesses.

The Manager – Program Lending is responsible for the design, underwriting, implementation and ongoing management of structured lending programmes that enable Equity Bank Tanzania to scale lending efficiently while maintaining appropriate credit quality and risk controls.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Develop and implement the Bank’s Program Lending framework in alignment with the overall credit and business strategy.
- Identify scalable lending opportunities that can be delivered through standardized credit programmes.
- Translate market opportunities into structured lending propositions with clearly defined credit parameters.
- Develop programmes targeting, among others:
- MSMEs
- Retail customers
- Agriculture and agribusiness
- Value-chain businesses
- Salaried customers
- Women and youth enterprises
- Supply-chain businesses
- Strategic partnerships
- Digital lending segments
- Assess the commercial viability and credit risk of proposed programmes.
- Prepare programme proposals for approval by the appropriate credit and management committees.
- Maintain underwriting discipline while supporting efficient turnaround times.
- Ensure programme lending does not compromise the Bank’s overall credit standards.
- Monitor actual portfolio performance against model expectations and recommend adjustments where required.
- Ensure each lending programme has clearly defined risk controls covering:
- Provide regular programme performance reports to the Head of Credit Underwriting and relevant committees.
- Recommend tightening or relaxation of programme parameters based on actual performance.
- Recommend pricing adjustments where programme performance does not support expected returns.
- Ensure each programme has a comprehensive operating manual.
- Support the development of automated and digital lending solutions.
- Work closely with Business teams to ensure programme lending propositions are commercially viable and operationally practical.
