TECHNICIAN INTERN – FIBRE INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE (50) 

Location: Dar es Salaam 

Duration: 3–6 Months 

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

The Technician Intern will gain practical, hands-on experience in fiber optic installation and maintenance.  This role provides exposure to fieldwork, technical troubleshooting, and teamwork within a professional  telecommunications environment. Upon successful completion of the internship and based on  demonstrated performance the company may offer full-time employment. 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Installation & Maintenance 
  • Assist in fiber optic cable installation, splicing, and termination. 
  • Support routine maintenance activities on fiber networks. 
  • Help identify and troubleshoot faults under supervision. 
  • Ensure proper use and care of tools, equipment, and safety gear during fieldwork. 
  1. Technical Support 
  • Work closely with engineers and senior technicians on project tasks. 
  • Conduct basic testing of fiber connections using standard tools and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and field observations.
  • Follow safety guidelines, company procedures, and industry standards at all times. 
  1. Learning & Development 
  • Gain exposure to fiber optic systems, installation techniques, and network architecture.
  • Learn to operate fiber testing equipment (e.g., OTDR, power meters, light sources).
  • Develop practical skills in handling cables, connectors, and specialized tools.
  • Participate in training sessions, toolbox talks, and on-the-job learning opportunities.
  1. Collaboration & Reporting 
  • Assist in preparing daily activity and fieldwork reports. 
  • Communicate effectively with team members during field assignments. 
  • Support engineers in project execution, documentation, and quality checks.
  • Contribute to a positive, safe, and collaborative working environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS 

  • Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related field. 
  • Basic knowledge of fiber-optic systems, tools, and installation techniques. 
  • Strong practical skills, willingness to learn, and ability to follow instructions.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and interpersonal abilities. 
  • Ability to work in field environments and adhere to safety procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Transport passengers, packages or company cargo safely
  • Maintain high standards of road safety and customer service
  • Conduct daily inspections and ensure cleanliness of bodaboda/bajaj
  • Report equipment challenges or malfunctions immediately
  • Maintain trip logs and follow company routes and schedules
  • Respect road safety laws and company procedures

Applicant Qualifications

  • Class A (Bodaboda) or Class A/B (Bajaj) License
  • At least 1 year of experienc
  • Good understanding of Dar es Salaam road and safety laws
  • Be in good health, discipline and honesty
  • Age: 21–40 years

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in delivery/logistics work
  • Basic technical skills
  • Form Four Certificate or equivalent
  • VETA Certificate or equivalent
