Roles and Responsibilities

Credit Origination

  • Assess and analyse credit requests with a view of providing solution to customers.
  • Interact with the client, gather deal requirements, financial statements, and other inputs for performing quality analysis and due diligence
  • Work with RM/product partners in structuring credit solutions for the clients and ensuring the appropriateness of the products
  • Prepare credit applications for Corporate Banking customers for purpose of recommending to the Sanctioners.
  • Work with RM in obtaining all pre clearances like compliance clearance
  • Co-ordinate execution of other documentation and draw down of facilities.
  • Analyse historic and projected financial information to identify key issues and monitor compliance with covenants and terms prior to discussing with Relationship Manager
  • Act as the joint contact for credit management purposes for Credit Teams
  • Attend customer meetings with the Relationship Managers if credit related issues are to be discussed/ need to be resolved

•    Ensure compliance of all internal and regulatory credit related policies 
•    Liaise with Credit Team for limit approval/allocation in line with mandate and scale
• Seek necessary approvals for excesses in the account.

Portfolio Monitoring

  • Monitor quality of the portfolio through tracking past dues and excess with strict compliance with conditional approvals.
  • Ensure timely submission of quality EW, RRCC and excess Reports.
  • Monitor Risk triggers, Covenants and other credit conditions and report appropriately.
  • Collate customer produced financial information.
  • Ensure borrowing clients are 100% KYC complaint.
  • Provide technical input and undertake research for Relationship Manager in connection with proposed security.
  • A proactive approach to identifying EW accounts – No sudden slippages into Business support and Recovery.
  • No movement of account to BSR without going through EW
    Liaise with Credit on credit applications and other credit issues and ensure quick turnaround on queries.
  • Attend Relationship Team meetings and contribute fully, including suggestions for ways of improving client performance
  • Monitor and Control quality of portfolio using ‘Condition of Sanction’ triggers where possible. Discussing with Sanctioners deteriorating trends and trigger events if they give cause for concern and advising the Relationship Manager simultaneously.
  • Prepare timely stress tests wherever required
  • Prepare specific industry study wherever required.
  • Prepare Credit opinion reports wherever required.
  • Effective use of credit CCRS and Audit ready at any time

Risk and Controls Objectives

  • Keep a vigil on the Portfolio Monitoring Reports/ Credit Monitoring processes & ensuring that procedures/Policies are complied with any deviations to be escalated to Unit Head/ Head Credit & Operational Risk Controls/Credit
  • Ensure to remain alert to the risk of money laundering and assist in the Banks efforts in combating it by adhering to the key principles in relation to: identifying our customer, knowing our customer, reporting suspicious transactions, safeguarding records and not disclosing suspicions to customers.

Job Summary

To be responsible for the in-country Balance Sheet Management functions of Asset and Liability Management, Execution Services, Investment, Liquidity and Funding, and Capital.

Key Responsibilities:

CAPITAL MANAGEMENT 20%

Key actions to include:

  • Supporting the Country Treasurer in managing the banks’ capital position
  • Ensuring adherence to Capital Management policies and in-country regulatory and Board approved capital targets
  • Engaging with Finance teams to understand balance sheet reconciliation and trends
  • Supporting the Country Treasurer in compiling a capital plan, which forecasts regulatory and economic capital demand & supply across business units over a 3-year planning horizon while assessing if the forecast capital position meets regulatory and Board approved targets
  • Determining capital buffers and performing Cost of Equity calculations in line with Absa Treasury principles and methodology
  • Supporting initiatives in the move to a Basel III regulatory environment
ASSET & LIABILITY MANAGEMENT (ALM) 20%

Key actions to include:

  •  Supporting the Country Treasurer in managing the banks ALM process
  • Achieving an appropriate risk profile within Group standards and risk tolerances by centralizing, netting, and hedging all manageable risk via the Treasury Execution Services (TES) desk
  • Measuring, analyzing and interpreting interest rate risk in the banking book
  • Performing margin compression analysis
  • Performing structural analysis and adjustment of all balance sheet items
  • Ensuring all behavioural assumptions (including pre-payment assumptions) are in line with Absa Treasury guidelines

FUNDS TRANSFER PRICING (FTP) 15%

Key actions to include:

  • Supporting the Country Treasurer in managing the banks FTP process
  • Ensuring FTP guides business (Retail, Corporate and Trading) behaviour and immunizes businesses from market risk as far as possible
  • Ensuring Absa liquidity premiums are incorporated in all FCY pricing by business 
  • Maintaining all pricing assumptions to ensure FTP rates are aligned to, or will align the balance sheet to, required interest rate and liquidity risk profiles
  • As part of the NPA process, assign the appropriate FTP rate to new products after assessing interest rate and liquidity behavioural profiles

ALCO PROCESS 20%

Key actions to include:

  • Supporting the Country Treasurer in managing the banks ALCO process
  • Timely production of the monthly ALCO pack to required standards in conjunction with internal stakeholders (Risk, Finance and Credit)
  • Co-ordination of contributions and business proposals on behalf of ALCO members
  • Supporting Country Treasurer in executing the functions of ALCO Secretary

LIQUIDITY & FUNDING 20%

Key actions to include:

  • Daily management of bank’s Liquidity and Funding and sharing the daily end of day position to Treasury management
  • Supporting the Head of Treasury execution in formulating strategies to manage banks Liquidity and Funding position Optimally.
  • Ensuring appropriate funding profiles are achieved (diversification of funding base and lengthening of the funding profile)
  • Supporting the Treasury management in compiling an annual funding plan which is tracked monthly, with a challenge-and-review process against business STP and RAF forecasts to be presented at monthly ALCO
  • Monitoring and reporting on adherence to all regulatory and internal funding requirements and limits as maintained by TES
  • Ensuring all behavioural assumptions from a liquidity perspective are in line with Absa Treasury guidelines
  • Responsible for the bank’s Liquidity Risk Appetite setting
  • Responsible for liquidity stress testing

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Job Summary

• Identify and drive business development, primarily with new and existing customers across Tanzania or more Key Account portfolios
• Assist Key Account Director with product knowledge, sales research, customer relationship development, and research into solutions to meet customers’ needs using market and industry information and risk management for the portfolio(s)
• To manage the co-ordination of evaluation and execution of large, structured transactions, under the supervision of, or assisting a more senior manager. The value of these transactions will typically be between £5m and £1bn
• Develop practical and appropriate credit solutions (or Lending structures) through understanding customer needs
• Monitor and control nominated accounts within Key Account portfolios
• Assist Key Account Director in business development activities, business planning, customer acquisition and strategy
• Business research, marketing, advertising & sponsorship campaigns, production of MI, Pricing and covenant structures.

Main accountabilities and approximate time split

Relationship Management Planning 20%

  •  Assist the Key Account Director in the creation and co-ordination of annual Customer Relationship plans for all customers. Including input from product specialists and Credit Risk teams. This will ensure a consistent and coordinated marketing approach from across the Group to the portfolio
  • Review the Relationship Plans to create a recommended action plan for each quarter, relating primarily to the Operational Product Set and focus on increasing wallet share
  • Assist in the communication and implementation of any actions to improve service in respect of complaints/compliments received

 Deal Origination & Business Development 20%

  • Research current & new markets, identify target names, prepare client strategies
  • Establish & co-ordinate tenders, advertising, marketing and sponsorship campaigns
  • Prepare deal pitch documents and support Head Public Sector in delivering presentations to customers
  • Undertake financial analysis to develop optimal funding and product solutions

 Sales & Service 20%

  • Assist in the planning and co-ordination of any marketing approaches for new business and actively develop existing relationships
  • Determine the products that most effectively meet customer needs and be able to sell, at short notice, on a proactive and reactive basis
  • Drive strategic targets through the implementation of group, central and local campaigns.
  • Attend team meetings on a regular basis to maintain dialogue/sharing of information to ensure up to date knowledge of marketplace, business development activity/initiatives, competitors and people issues etc.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with Public Sectors customers.

Customer/KBI Contact 20%

  • Support seminars for customer and KBIs to provide information and trail new products to meet future customer requirements
  • Use feedback gained on Product /Service offerings to inform / identify and contribute to the development of distinctive service/product offerings which would be appropriate to the industry
  • Support the Head of Public Sector in the sale of complex solutions using a diagnostic approach. This will require the jobholder to have an in-depth understanding of customer needs and to take a holistic view of the customers business
  • Attend customer visits with the Head of Public Sector and/Head of CIB
  • Develop, monitor and maintain good working relationships with contacts within own network of KBIs
  • Provision of information on a customer’s business via research using various sources e.g.   trade journals / brokers reports / Internet / Bloomberg and rating agencies.

Business & Risk Management 20%

  • Attend meetings with customers, investment banks, rating agencies and professional advisers with and without the Head of Public Sector.
  • Undertake research using market and industry information and investigate matters to facilitate lending decisions
  • Work with Corporate Credit Managers to manage the evaluation and execution of large, structured transactions
  • Proactively contribute to embedding agreed change management initiatives in support  of process and quality improvements & cost reductions
  • Assess customers businesses, through the analysis of Business and Credit risks associated with the provision of the Bank’s products and services to the customer
  • Provide guidance on credit appetite and consulting with Specialist Credit team as appropriate.

  • Business development plans will need to be developed and implemented into a selective customer base of the Bank’s most sophisticated and complex customers. Sales activity will be highly demanding both in terms of the marketplace, which is very competitive, and the need to structure banking proposals for a critical customer audience. Customers will be sophisticated, demanding of excellent and highly professional service
  • The role requires a high level of interpersonal skills demonstrated by good oral and written communication and a team player who is friendly and confident when dealing with customers including presentations relating to Bank products and services
