Responsibilities 

  • Provide the leadership necessary to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry standards and any applicable legislation.  Develop and promote a Safe and Healthy Work Environment.
  • Control and allocation of Capital Expenditure for continued asset management.
  • Daily maintenance planning and execution of all mine assets management.
  • Monitoring and control of critical stoppages and incidents resulting in reduced production and execution of appropriate action plans to ensure reoccurrence is prevented.
  • Effectively promote, deploy, and comply with all Safety & Health and Environmental policies, standards, procedures and regulations across Light Vehicles, Transport equipment and machinery maintenance to company policies and Tanzanian mining legislation.
  • Take ownership of the Company’s Asset Management within the areas of responsibility with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Management of maintenance, repairs, and alterations to all buildings, facilities and utilities within the mine surface operational area as well as the sporting and residential areas.
  • Effective and efficient allocation of maintenance resources as measured by schedule compliance, PM compliance, level of planned vs. unplanned work and the ongoing management of backlogs
  • Proactively develop quality systems, approaches and practices as needed
  • Execution of affective reliability center maintenance practices
  • Continuous improvement of asset reliability and availability.
  • Expansion of mining infrastructure and activities and related services to support production planning.
  • Supplier and vendor management and networking, specifically related to local business to further Tanzanian national mining industry development.
  • Contactor management
  • Ensure that all daily, weekly and monthly department reports are completed accurately, on time and with appropriate content.
  • Preparation of the annual budget and management thereof and implementation of continuous improvement and cost control.
  • Create a working environment that ensures that team members gain new skills and achieve their full potential by developing and implementing effective training and mentoring programs.
  • Ensure deployment of key initiatives and communication of relevant messages to team members and all other relevant parties.
  • Ensure that all safety incidents are reported and investigated according to procedure and on time.
  • Assist with any other accident investigation when required.
  • Ensure that all daily, weekly and monthly department reports are completed accurately, on time and with appropriate content.
  • Procedural compliance and corporate governance for employer and community best interest.
  • Corporate and executive communication and business conduct and etiquette.

Roles and Responsibilities on Health and Safety

  • Ensure all team members are aware of and committed to their DUTY of CARE responsibilities.
  • Ensure critical controls have been implemented and confirmed on any task involving Fatal Risk.
  • Ensure all team members have a safe working environment including working tools.
  • Ensure all NMGM safe work practices and procedures are followed.
  • Ensure Zero involvement in an incident or accident also ensure all accident or incident are reported immediately.
  • Ensure completion of at least 14 x Safety Interactions each week.
  • Ensure workforce comply with applicable legislation and site-specific requirements.
  • Ensure 100% achievement of weekly target for Safety Interactions across the operation.
  • Ensure 100% Compliance to Standard Operating Procedures by all while on shift.
  • Ensure active participating in incident and accident investigations. 
  • Ensure participation in safety management and toolbox meetings.
  • Ensure checks and all required work permits including FLRA and WPI are completed to a high standard and that all safety hazards raised are addressed.
  • Ensure that personnel are trained and ticketed for their designated tasks.
  • Ensure responsibility of enforcing safe work practices and procedures at workplace
  • Ensure immediate steps to correct unsafe or unhealthful workplace conditions or hazards are taken.
  • Ensure actively participation in a positive work attitude towards safety.
  • Ensure that facilities, plant, and equipment are being used safely and for the appropriate work method.
  • Conduct inspections in accordance with the relevant legislation.
  • Maximize achievement of targets with respects to safety and monthly production.
  • Ensure and maintain compliance to mine planning, design, and profile standards.
  • Ensure and maintain compliance on based job safety analysis (JHA) completed accurately for every task without a Standard Operating Procedure
  • Ensure all possible hazards on route and inside assigned working places are identified, rectified and/ or reported. 

Qualification requirements

  • Tertiary Engineering qualifications are essential

  • Mine Overseers Certificate of Competency or the equivalent will be an added advantage

  • Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness.

Experience and Competencies needed

  • Minimum 5 years Maintenance Engineer level or higher with experience in Mining Industry.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in compiling and/or managing maintenance budgets. 

  • Minimum 2 years management of the maintenance planning and scheduling function.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and a commitment to safety regulations and industry standards are vital.

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure Tyre Management and Services contractors and any personnel working in particular in the maintenance areas comply with Tanzanian Mining (safe working) Regulations and the Barrick Health, Safety and Environmental site requirements.
  • Ensure that contractors work is performed to the approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and that Job Hazards Analysis (JHA) and Field Level Risk Assessments are undertaken prior to commencement of the works and during execution.
  • In conjunction with the Purchasing and Stores Officer, plan and control inventory of parts and spares. Participate in regular stock takes.
  • Ensure jobs are timely, properly planned and effectively communicated to the Light Vehicle team and users of Crane and vehicles.
  • To ensure Optimum availability of equipment and maximize component life in most cost-effective manner
  • Be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety, efficient utilization of the resources and encourage teamwork across Teams.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned to fulfill the overall business objective.
  • Take part effectively in succession planning within the LV Team to ensure progressive development of Tanzanian employees to assume positions of increasing accountability.
  • Manage business decisions and transactions in compliance to the Company Code of Ethics and compliance to the law and standards.

Qualification requirements

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or Trade certificate with equivalent appropriate experience.
  • Experience in services and repair of light vehicles, light trucks, generators, welding functions, mobile and fixed cranes.
  • Assembly, dyno testing and troubleshooting experience on Air Cooled and Water cooled Engines. Workshop experience in machining, welding and pipe/ plate fabrication.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Excel, Pronto/SAP Autosketch/Autocad

Experience and Competencies needed

  • Must have at least years’ experience in maintenance and repair of Light Vehicles.
