Vacancies for the post of members of the council of the Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority Consumer Consultative Council (TCRA CCC)

1.0 Background
The Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority –Consumer Consultative Council (TCRA CCC) was established under Section 40(1) of the TCRA Act, CAP 172 R.E 2023.
In pursuance of provision of Section 40(4) of the TCRA Act, CAP 172, the Minister Communication and Information Technology who is the Minister responsible for Communication, invites nomination from Mainland and Island for appointment to TCRA Consumer Consultative Council.
2.0 Functions of the Council
Functions of the Council conferred under Section 41. –(1)(a)-(d) are:
(a) To represent the interest of consumers by making submissions to, providing views and information to and consulting with the Authority, Minister and sector Ministers;
(b) Receive and disseminate information and views on matters of interest to consumers of regulated goods and services;
(c) To establish local, regional and sector consumer committees and consult with them; and
(d) To Consult with industry, Government and other consumer groups on matters of interest to consumers of regulated goods and services.
3.0 Qualification required
As per Section 40(2), candidates nominated should be representatives of consumers including the business community or by an organization or organizations legally recognized as being representative of private sector interest.
Accordingly, Section 40(5) of TCRA Act, CAP 172, provide that nominations of persons from membership of the council regards shall be to the desirability of the Council as a group ought to have knowledge, experience and understanding of the interests of consumers and that of the regulated services, including the interest of:
a) low income, rural and disadvantaged persons;
b) Industrial and business users; and
c) Government and community Organizations
4.0 Tenure of the Council Members
As per Section 40(3) of the TCRA Act, CAP 172 tenure of office of the members of the Council shall be three years with effect from the date of appointment.
5.0 Other information
Nominating entities should therefore take into account the requirements listed herein above in exercise of rights accorded to them under the law.
6.0 Mode of application
6.1
Nominations for the TCRA CCC should be made in writing and should include the name of the organisation, name of the nominated person and the name of the person making nomination: enclosing detailed Curriculum vitae (CV) and Certified copies of relevant certificates.
6.2
Curriculum vitae (CV) should include names, Addresses, telephone numbers and emails of three referees including the sponsoring entity.
6.3
The envelope should be marked on top “NOMINATION TO TCRA CCC COUNCIL MEMBERS”.
It should be noted that before shortlisting of suitable candidates, the public would be invited through the press to comment on their suitability.
7.0 Deadline of submission
Nominations should reach the undersigned within three weeks from the date of the first appearance of this publication.
